Recall for Spinach with Salmonella Underway

Metz Fresh has issued a product recall for bagged spinach that may be contaminated with salmonella. The company routinely tests spinach as it is processed in their plants. Metz Fresh reports that most of the spinach was found before going to the consumer.

"As soon as we learned of the presumptive positive test, we directed all customers to hold all boxes of the spinach affected as a precaution," Andrew Cumming, president of Metz Fresh, said in a statement. The recall covers 10- and 16-ounce bags, as well as 4-pound cartons and cartons that contain four 2.5-pound bags, with the following tracking codes: 12208114, 12208214 and 12208314.

There have been no reports of anyone getting sick after eating the recalled spinach. If you do have the recalled spinach you should throw it away or return it to the store for a refund. Last summer there was a spinach recall involving E. coli contamination. Over 200 people got sick and 3 died.
