A woman was killed earlier this week in what appears to be a drag racing accident in north Minneapolis. Cheresa Sims died when the mini-van she was riding in slammed into a light pole at the intersection of Plymouth and N. James Ave.

Sims' boyfriend, Robert Barnes was the driver of the mini-van which was carrying seven passengers. Another passenger was injured in the crash.

Barnes fled the scene and was not found for approximately 14 hours. He admitted that he had been drinking several hours prior to the crash.

A roadside memorial has been erected at the scene. One sign says, 'We'll be missing you, Love Mom and Dad'.

Barnes is charged with Criminal Vehicular Homicide. He is being held on a $100,000 bond.
