Sacramento's CBS 13, CW 31 and Weatherbug Partner to Offer Viewers Live, Neighborhood-Level Weather Reporting-On-Air and Online

Viewers Benefit from Daily Newscasts Featuring Live, Local WeatherBug Data from Area Schools and Downtown Locations

Sacramento, CA and Germantown, MD – WeatherBug®, the leading provider of live, local weather information along with CBS 13 AND CW 31 (KOVR-TV AND KMAX-TV) today announced the two companies have partnered to provide viewers with live, local weather data-in their morning, noon, afternoon and evening newscasts. Viewers in the Sacramento, Stockton and Modesto area benefit from this rich network of live, local weather information, available exclusively through CBS13/CW31 on-air weather coverage and online at cbs13.com, to help them plan their day and stay safe during changing weather conditions.

Launched today, CBS13/CW31's weather team, meteorologist Dave Bender, morning meteorologist Jeff James and weather anchor Cody Stark will now incorporate live, weather data across the viewing area from the WeatherBug Network of tracking stations and cameras into their daily weather coverage. Additionally, CBS13/CW31 will be able to tap into WeatherBug's national network of tracking stations for live weather conditions and severe weather coverage from around the nation.

Jackson Rancheria and Ashley Furniture have teamed up with the two companies to sponsor the neighborhood-level weather reporting on-air and online.

"CBS13 and CW31 are excited to bring the WeatherBug network to the Sacramento, Stockton, Modesto area," said Steve Charlier, Vice President/News Director at CBS13/CW31. "With hundreds of weather stations across the state and thousands around the country, WeatherBug is another high tech tool we'll use to keep our viewers in touch with the changing weather at a moments notice."

The WeatherBug Network captures live weather conditions from viewers' neighborhoods. Traditional newscasts, on the other hand, typically rely on weather information from weather stations placed at airports, which are then computer modeled to appear localized. With access to the WeatherBug Network however, CBS13/CW31 will be able to report on live weather conditions at area schools, provide severe weather alerts and track dramatic changes in weather conditions such as heat index and wind speed.

"WeatherBug welcomes CBS 13 and CW 31 to our broadcast family," said Michael Rosen, SVP and GM of the WeatherBug Consumer Division. "Working together, our organizations are committed to providing increased reliability in daily weather newscasts to Sacramento area viewers to help them to plan their day with confidence and stay safe during severe weather."

WeatherBug maintains the largest weather network in the world. The live, local weather conditions are delivered to millions of consumers via the Internet and mobile devices, more than 100 state and local government agencies including the National Weather Service, and to schools, businesses and 80 broadcast television stations throughout the country.
